So, today's update is hopefully a bit more exciting than the past few have been. We finally have found some leeway in the mentor/contact portion of the project. One of the labels that I contacted with the email from last post has responded, and it looks like they're willing to work with me and answer some questions. The response I received can be found below.
I'm very excited about this, (obviously), as it will allow me to collect actual accounts of people's experiences in the music industry. Hopefully by next post I will have made contact with Ms. DeMarco and will also have some questions pre-written that I'll be able to share with you before I ask them.
Prior to this I was having some doubts about my topic, but now that I know I can make contact with someone at a legitimate record label, I feel like I'll be able to do the bulk of my research through actual accounts of the people working at Rostrum Records. Maybe I'll even be lucky enough to hear from an artist under their employment.
Now the other important aspect of my project needs to be addressed, that being gaining some experience for myself. While I'm not sure yet exactly how I'll be able to do this, I can say that I gained some valuable performance experience this winter when I performed at the Keynote Cafe in Jeanette. Additionally, the owners of the Keynote asked for my contact information for future performances and so they can spread my name to more musically-minded people. Perhaps this is the way in I needed to gaining my own experience? Only time will tell.
Performing live is a whole different ballgame from recording at home. |
