Final Miscellaneous Research

Getting back into some more simple content on this week's update seeing as we haven't gotten much news on any of our other fronts. So I decided to just do a little more research into how certain rappers got into the business once more, just to finalize what we started all the way back with Kanye. Today we'll be covering Eminem, 2 Chainz, and Common.

Beginning with Eminem, if anyone has seen 8 Mile, it's a whole lot like that. And if you haven't seen 8 Mile, go see 8 Mile, it's a fantastic film. Anyway, Eminem grew up in a troubled household, which made it very difficult for him to make education a priority. As a result, he never attended college, and yet despite such, he has managed his career as a musician, as well as branching off his own record label, Shady Records. Not much more needs to be said for Eminem, basically this only reconfirms the thought that college is not a necessity for a rapper. I guess the question that needs to be answered is is it still beneficial?

Next we move into some more interesting territory, as it turns out that Georgia-born luxury rapper "2 Chainz" did in fact attend college, a fact which came as a surprise to me. He attended Alabama State University on a basketball scholarship, and though I've scoured the web, I have yet to find out whether he graduated and if so, with what degree.

Rounding out our list is Common, who recently received attention for working with John Legend to create "Glory," an academy-award-winning piece of music. Common also attended college at Florida A&M University, although he majored in business administration.

This reminds me of something I've noticed lately, even those rappers who did go to college did not attend for any sort of music degree. I have yet to find a single rapper who went to college for music, which is beginning to make me suspect that attending college, at least for music, has no bearing on a rapper's success.

Thoughts?
