Music Industry vs. Music Community?

Going a bit off-topic with this blog, at least in regard to our usual email struggles, but since the overall theme of my project deals with success in the music industry, I feel as though this definitely holds relevance. Acknowledging the fact that we will be delivering "TED talks"as the final product of this project, I decided to search for previous talks regarding the music industry. I stumbled across the video below, which confirms some of my suspicions but also presents some new thoughts.

I know the guy looks a little creepy, but he's got some good ideas, trust me.

Anyway, the overall idea behind this video is that the product one attempts to sell is worthless, and what really matters in this industry is community. To fix the music industry, we have to trust that people will want to buy our product despite how over-saturated the music industry is with raw talent.

A lot of this just confirms my ideas that the most important thing to achieve success in music is connections, but there are also a lot of other cool ideas that Mr. McTear talks about.

So what do you think? In today's society, are we dealing more with a music industry, or a music community?

Until next time
